Greenwich named the greenest university in the UK
Greenwich has been assessed as being the greenest university in the UK by the The People and Planet Green League.
Each of the 146 universities that took part were assessed upon their environmental and ethical performance by measuring the actions and attitudes of the organisations.
The total score for each university is the combination of the points scored in two main areas: policy and performance. Each university is therefore required to have robust policies in place, combined with good management and key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of these policies. Areas that are measured include environmental policy and auditing systems, ethical investment, carbon management, energy sources, and waste and recycling.
The results, which were published by the Guardian, show that Greenwich rose from 5th place in 2011 to beat the University of Plymouth and the University of Brighton in to second and third places respectively.
